President of Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Kudjoe Finaoo has explained why this year’s President's Cup will kick off late.
The match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will kick off at 6 pm, GHALCA, who are organisers of the Cup match played in honour of sitting Ghanaian president, announced on Tuesday.
“In our last two congresses, we brought this issue up for review, we brought the white paper out and not even a single line in that report stated that we can’t play in the evening," Mr Fianoo explained in an interview with Akoma FM.
“But we were waiting for tempers to calm and see to it that, there must be a starting point to tightening up security and also Educate the fans that football isn’t about fight.
“So, we have considered all these things and we believe that bringing back the love, demands that we put certain things behind us and move forward.”
The match will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
President Nana Akufo-Addo will perform the ceremonial kick off and decorate the players with medals.
Kotoko were crowned champions the last time both sides met in the President's Cup in 2019.
Kofi Kordzi scored first for the Phobians but a Mohammed Alhassan own goal and a Naby Laye Keita effort secured a comeback win for the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Kotoko have won the trophy on six occasions, two more than Hearts of Oak.
